19-3836; Rev 1; 12/05 Dual, 8-Bit, Programmable, 30mA High-Output-Current DAC MAX5548 General Description Features The MAX5548 dual, 8-bit, digital-to-analog converter Pin-Selectable I2C- or SPI-Compatible Interface (DAC) features high-output-current capability. The Guaranteed Low Output Leakage Current in MAX5548 sources up to 30mA per DAC, making it ideal Shutdown (±1µA max) for PIN diode biasing applications. Outputs can also beparalleled for high-current applications (up to 60mA Guaranteed Monotonic over Extended typ). Operating from a single +2.7V to +5.25V supply, Temperature Range the MAX5548 typically consumes 1.5mA per DAC in Dual Outputs for Balanced Systems normal operation and less than 1µA (max) in shutdown Current Outputs Source Up to 30mA per DAC mode. The MAX5548 also features low output leakagecurrent in shutdown mode (±1µA max) that is essential Parallelable Outputs for 60mA Applications to ensure that the external PIN diodes are off. Output Stable with RF Filters Additional features include an integrated +1.25V Internal or External Reference Capability bandgap reference, and a control amplifier to ensure Digital Output (DOUT) Available for Daisy high accuracy and low-noise performance. A separate Chaining in SPI Mode reference input (REFIN) allows for the use of an externalreference source, such as the MAX6126, for improved +2.7V to +5.25V Single-Supply Operation gain accuracy. A pin-selectable I2C*-/SPITM-compatible 16-Pin (3mm x 3mm) Thin QFN Package serial interface provides optimum flexibility for the Programmable Output Current Range Set by MAX5548. The maximum programmable output current Software and Adjustment Resistor value is set using software and an adjustment resistor. The MAX5548 is available in a 3mm x 3mm, 16-pin, thin Ordering Information QFN package, and is specified over the extended(-40°C to +85°C) temperature range.
