19-0546; Rev 0; 5/06 12V/5V Input Buck PWM Controller MAX5951 General Description Features The MAX5951 is a 12V pulse-width modulated (PWM), 8V to 16V or 5V ±10% Input-Voltage Range step-down, DC-DC controller. The device operates over Lossless Valley-Mode Current Sensing the input-voltage range of 8V to 16V or 5V ±10%, andprovides an adjustable output from 0.8V to 5.5V. The Output Voltage Adjustable from 0.8V to 5.5V device delivers up to 10A of load current with excellent Voltage-Mode Control load-and-line regulation. External Compensation for Maximum Flexibility The MAX5951 PWM section utilizes a voltage-mode Digital Soft-Start control scheme for good noise immunity and offersexternal compensation, allowing for maximum flexibility Sequencing or Ratiometric Tracking with a wide selection of inductor values and capacitor Startup Synchronization types. The device operates at a fixed switching fre- Programmable PGOOD Output quency that is programmable from 100kHz to 1MHzand can be synchronized to an external clock signal Programmable Switching Frequency from 100kHz though the SYNCIN input. The device includes under- to 1MHz voltage lockout (UVLO) and digital soft-start. Protection External Frequency Synchronization features include lossless valley-mode current limit, hic- cup-mode output short-circuit protection, and thermal SYNCIN and SYNCOUT Enable 180° Out-of-Phase shutdown. Operation The MAX5951 is available in a space-saving 5mm x Thermal Shutdown and Short-Circuit Protection 5mm, 32-pin thin QFN package and is specified for Space-Saving, 5mm x 5mm, 32-Pin TQFN Package operation over the -40°C to +85°C extended tempera-ture range.
